3rd Culture Theatre was founded in 2011. Its mission is to inspire a love for theatre through the staging of emotionally engaging, intellectually provocative and intensely creative performances.
Elena Yeo ⌘ Founder/Artistic Producing Director
Elena has worked for over ten years as an actor, producer and stage manager in London, Shanghai and Singapore. As a producer, Elena launched the inaugural Short + Sweet Theatre Festival in Singapore 2007. It consisted of 40 ten-minute plays staged over three weeks, and featured some of Singapore’s top actors, directors and playwrights. Other production and stage credits include Agamemnon (Berkoff), Love’s Labours Lost (Shakespeare), King Lear (Shakespeare), The Master Builder (Ibsen), Art (Reza), I Am My Own Wife (Wright), Drift (Yu) and Caucasian Chalk Circle (Brecht).
Elena holds two Masters degrees in Performance Making from Goldsmiths College, London and Curating & Cultural Leadership from UNSW Art & Design, Sydney.
I Kadek Budi Setiawan ⌘ Dalang/Puppeteer
Kadek was born to a family of master puppeteers or dalangs. His talent for puppet making, puppet performance, music and dance came from his parents, who were both famous puppeteers. It is particularly noteworthy that his mother was a famous puppeteer, which is very rare. Kadek studied in the English department at Udayana University and then continued to study at the art school ISI Denpasar. He graduated in 2014 when he was awarded the best performer in shadow puppetry.
His talent as puppeteer, dancer and musician has seen him perform around the world including Japan, Italy, Germany, Austria, Holland, Australia and Singapore. He was last seen in Singapore in 2016 in Sandaime Richard, directed by Ong Keng Sen for the Singapore International Festival of the Arts.
Shawn Thomas O’Docharty ⌘ Writer/Actor/Director/Designer
Born in Alaska, USA, Shawn's work over the last 26 years has brought him through 19 countries on four different continents, all with the singular focus of arriving at those crossroads of culture where creative expression meet social action. Acting and writing first took him to Sarah Lawrence College where he completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts, then to Paris for grad-school at the International School of Theatre Jacques Lecoq.
He is co-founder of Imibala Theatre & Co. in Paris, with whom he had the good fortune to tour through many parts of Europe and Africa, working notably with the United Nations High Commission for Refugees in Sarajevo, The National Theatre of Uganda, and The National University of Rwanda. He is the founder of the Theatre Arts program at the American International School of Chennai, as well as a guest artist and instructor with International Schools Theatre Association. He currently lives with his wife Ayu in Bali, Indonesia where he teaches Acting and Writing at the Green School-Bali and is working on a manuscript of new American poetry.
